In today’s blog i will analyse why i think ex-Mercedes and Ferrari driver Juan Manuel Fangio and ex-Mclaren and Ferrari driver Niki Lauda are 3rd and 4th in my top 10 greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time. The reason Fangio makes it in 3rd in my top 10 list is firstly because of the astounding dominance Juan Manuel Fangio shown during the short amount of time he raced in Formula 1 between 1950-1958 which includes an absence due to a serious back injury. Fangio also makes the list due to winning 4 of his 5 F1 Drivers World Championship with 4 different teams such as Alfa Romeo,Maserati,Mercedes and Ferrari which again is incredible considering he only raced in Formula 1 between 1950-1958.
But the reason i just cannot rank the Argentinian in 1st or either 2nd place is because i don’t believe his competition was anywhere near good as say Ayrton Senna’s’ was with drivers such as Nelson Piquet,Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost and another reason i do not rank him higher is because of the literal fact that his team mates sometimes had to give their cars up to Fangio if the Argentinian had a mechanical failure of some sort, But there is no doubt that Juan Manuel Fangio deserves to be in the top 5 greatest drivers of all time.
The reason i rank ex-Mclaren and Scuderia Ferrari driver Niki Lauda in 4th is because in my opinion he was the best Formula One driver of the 1970’s winning 2 F1 Drivers World Championships in 1975 and 1977 with the Scuderia. He also makes it in 4th for beating legendary team mate Alain Prost in 1984 and for still somehow managing to be just as great as a F1 driver after his terrifying crash at the 1976 German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring in Germany. But the reason i just cannot rank the legendary Austrian any higher than Fangio or the certain peoples in 1st and 2nd is quite simply because he is not as good as them and i think some people maybe surprised that i have ranked Lauda so high. But hey its my opinion and im sticking with Niki Lauda as the 4th greatest Formula 1 driver of all time.
